The
importance of promoting and cultivating environmental
awareness and consciousness is increasing year after year. The number
of environmental problems is increasing, especially in the urban
areas, resulting to significant implications on the human health,
impacts on the wider environment and climate change, as well as
the quality of life and the economic performance of the cities themselves.
Around 80% of the European Union’s population lives in cities
and towns. Urban areas are, therefore, the places where environmental
problems most affect the quality of life of European citizens.
This
project aims at promoting the concept and practice of urban sustainable
development through training of local authorities officers and policy
makers of the new member states on basic environmental issues, thus,
encouraging them to get involved and create their own action plans.
It will achieve its aim by creating a Training
e-Tool, which will include information, examples and
case studies on 4 thematic areas, namely:
1.
Sustainable Urban Management
2. Sustainable Urban Transport
3. Sustainable Urban Construction
4. Sustainable Urban Design |
